The Rhetorical Function of Micro-Influencer Instagram Photos

Written for Visual Rhetoric, this paper explores Korean American otherness in the beauty and fashion industry by analyzing the rhetorical function of micro-influencer Instagram posts.

I wrote this piece for a course called Writing Non-Fiction Narratives. We were allowed to write about literally anything true. My goal was to write an anecdote that creates nostalgia, focuses on something seemingly insignificant but holds deep meaning to me, and has a twist that alters their audience’s worldview in some way. I chose to tell the account of my unique love story with my high school best friend.

Just peachy keen.

During the Summer of 2020, I wrote my first play, Just Peachy Keen. This play was part of a competition dubbed “The Bake Off.” Contestants were challenged with writing a play integrating five elements, or ingredients: a peach, a tree growing, a misconception, a goodbye, and a silence.

The slide in the schoolhouse yard

The Slide in the Schoolhouse Yard is a monologue inspired by the song “All I Want Is You” by Barry Louis Polisar. It tells the story of a young girl who is scared to go to school and her mother who does everything in her power to calm and reassure her. I produced this piece for a scriptwriting class during my senior year at the University of Maryland.
